My Little Miss Sunshine

One of the best movies I’ve watched in the cinema this year. The family dramady has won the Best Feature - World Cinema Audience Award at the 2006 Sydney Film Festival, and a standing ovation at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Ironic it may seem…the film is basically about the failures of the characters but it sure turned out to be a winner.

Indeed a dysfunctional famliy on a road trip. The script was delightfully funny and its clever without being pretentious. Most important it touch souls…it sure touch mine. The cast breathes life into the characters and seeing the ending where the Hoovers went on stage and dance like no one cared…that was awesome.

Club 33

Club 33 is a concept café that was invented while sipping coffee with my friend who turned 33. Offer a year of free membership to anyone who turned 33. Membership is valid for a year because you are only 33 once in this lifetime. A free meal for 3 at the café as a welcoming for the new member…33% discount on any amount spent within the one year of membership.

There will be lots of books and magazines to read…you can even leave your books at the café and let others enjoy a good read…also there will be lots of cds to listen to…you can even bring your own cds to listen to…just play the cds at the cd counter…but no cheesy stuffs or you’ll be barred from the café...whether cheesy or not...it will be decided by yours truly…also there will be a small stage at the corner with acoustic guitars set up with amplifiers where customers can play some tunes…but again no cheesy stuffs or you will be barred from the café…how cool is that.
Whether its a Saturday night chill out or Sunday afternoon lazing...Club 33 is the place to be.

Ole Hadi

Ole ole ole ole…Hadi Hadi…no offence…surely Hadi’s fans can do better than that. I’m sure Hadi would want his fans to be a little more creative than that...I almost laughed my head off.
Finally it has come to an end…what a drag. It has been going on like forever. I didn’t quite watch the whole show…I’m sure it will be a damn bore…been switching between channels…that’s what I normally do when watching programs on TCS channels. I had to know who Singapore voted for this round…come to think of it…I should have tune in at 9.20pm instead. It doesn't really matter who won...I just wanted to know what kind of entertainment is installed for the viewers.

By the way what’s Energy doing in Singapore idols? First they belt out their songs in Mandarin…then they “try” to sing Stand By Me…and Daniel Ong had to ask them questions in Mandarin…I really am puzzled. Why not get Electrico to sing another song or 2…or maybe 3…make it 10...I will definitely be entertained if they sing 10 songs.

I’m glad its finally over…over over over over…Singapore Idols…over (ala ole style)

Miami Vice Not Nice

Michael Mann directed “Heat” which was brilliant to watch…the script was great…the story flow smoothly…and with De Niro and Pacino nothing could go wrong…there is a purpose in every character…and the gunfight on the streets…immaculate. Well…I wouldn’t say so for “Miami Vice”.

First of all there is no chemistry between Farrell and Foxx…too much intensity between them. Gong Li was a disaster. There is no doubt about her acting but her Chinese accented English is such a drag. Her sentence breaks down whenever she speaks…I just couldn’t stand it. The supporting casts were almost ignored. Don’t be fooled by the advertisements…but if people are interested in watching fast boats and nice cars…lots of neon lights and of course a bloated Collin Farrell…I wouldn’t recommend anyone watching. Wait for the TCS 5 release in a few years time…with lots of advertisements…every 15 minutes of the show that is.

Seinfeld Re-runs

Seinfeld…my favorite sitcom of all time…a self-described “show about nothing”. After all these years…I still have a good laugh after watching. These days…I hardly watch any sitcoms…talk about re-runs. Well…That 70’s Show was quite cool…for awhile…The Office…hmm…somewhat unusual but occasionally funny…Arrested Development…not that bad but not quite in the league as of Seinfeld.

I don’t remember watching the last episode on TV back in 1998…I’d better stay glued to the TV every night and patiently wait for the last episode of the re-run to be aired. The TCS production of Police Thief…My Sassy Neighbor…give me a break.

Should I Or Should I Not

Been toying the idea of buying Nokia N73 for awhile…but just couldn’t bring myself to part with that amount of money for a mobile phone especially when my current E1000 cost nothing and I already have a 4 megapixels Canon Digital Ixus…why do I need a mobile phone with a high definition camera?

I must say the advertising is brilliantly done…giving out free N73 to bloggers so that they can write a piece about the phone...if only I can get one for free too…think I’d better renew my contract with Starhub MaxOnline and receive a Samsung 19” LCD TV for free instead.

Inspire My Muse

I’ve always been addicted to songs that are soothing to the soul. Songs that will bring me to places that I can’t possibly be at…songs that will make me think about lots of things…happening in the past…happening now…maybe in the future…songs that will make me want to do stuffs that I don’t normally think of doing…songs that inspire my muse…songs that I can easily strum to. Some recent affection…

Iron and Wine’s “16, Maybe Less” – Haunting yet enchanting

Death Cab For Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” – The song title speaks for itself

Live’s “Get Ready” – Anticipate events to come and be prepared

Coldplay “A Message” – Song for the loveless

Feeling Healthy

This weekend has been rather fruitful. Suntan late Saturday morning at Sentosa…jogging late Sunday afternoon. Yes I’m feeling healthy this weekend. Lately it has been work work and more work…hardly got any strength left to do anything…other than occasional dinners and coffees…unhealthy isn’t it. No more soccer weekday nights…no more blading and kayaking Sunday morning…so will have to be contented with whatever I can do that will keep me in good shape.

Subconsciously Trainspotting

Was telling my friend that Trainspotting was my favorite movie of all time. Well it is one of my favorite movies of all time. Also an adaptation from the book of the same title by Irvine Welsh…I have not read Trainspotting but I’ve read his other works…Porno…Filth…The Acid House. I remembered I watched the movie back in 96 or was it 97…at that time I have no idea that the movie was actually based on a novel. It was only later that I found out…but I couldn’t find any Trainspotting novels in Singapore anymore. The movie made me wake up to brilliant books like Irvine Welsh’s.

The movie is crude to the core…tells of what drugs can do…but in a funny twist…smart movie with lots of color and comedy. The movie is also about friends…loyalty and betrayal. It is a tragic-comedy if you ask me. Your mind wonders after watching movies like this…its really thought provoking.

Have I change a bit after watching Trainspotting? I don’t think I change much after watching…maybe I’ve changed a little down the road as I grow…I’d like to say I have subconsciously evolve…I might have become a little more rebellious than I was before…I might have open my eyes a little bigger when looking at people and making friends…I think I have become a little more daring in taking challenges…and I have definitely become laid back knowing that life cannot be taken too seriously all the time. Of course all these are not directly due to watching the movie alone but rather the movie indirectly have some effects on me. It might have contributed in some ways to what I am today.

Silent Sigh

Haven’t been doing much today…other than watching Lost season 2 episode 24…and About A Boy on the dvd. Can’t remember when I bought the dvd but I sure enjoyed watching it again. The novel by British writer Nick Hornby of the same name was inspired by Nirvana’s song, About A Girl. I have not read About A Boy…but I’ve read one of his other books…High Fidelity.

The movie was interesting in a sort of way where the 2 main character’s thoughts were narrated…using of double voice-over naration. Like when I’m having a conversion with you…I said something but actually my thoughts was different from what I’ve said…and you on the other hand said something different from what your were thinking. This is so true in real life. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone just speaks their mind all the time? It will definitely be a disaster I kid you not.

The movie soundtrack was done by Badly Drawn Boy (singer songwriter Damon Gough) which was as brilliant. Sometimes instrumental sometimes lyrical…the combination’s a bomb. Nick Hornby list A Minor Incident as one of the many tracks that change his life but for me it has got to be Silent Sigh…not that the song change my life or anything…but my favourite song from the soundtrack.
