What’s New

What’s new…you can see it coming but you can’t stop it. We the citizens have no choice but to accept the 2% increase in GST. Yes all we do are complaints complaints and endless complaints…but how can we not complain? Over the period of less than a year…how many price hike have we seen? Now the question on everyone’s mind…is what’s next? Could it be the medical expenses…could it be a new tax for buying cars…more charges for ERP…could it be price hike for cigarettes and liquor…it could be anything. Let’s all wait and see.

It’s All About Choices

“Flag the Bus Early”…this is the silliest campaign I’ve ever heard. Surely the bus companies can come up with better campaigns…like “More Buses Less Overcrowding” or “More Buses To the More Remote”…”More Buses At Cheaper Rates”. Even Dr Lim Wee Kiat with his maiden speech in Parliament said that although we have 2 bus companies servicing the commuters but they are not competing…well said Dr Lim. With no competition…you get “Flag the Bus Early”.

Dr Lim also pointed out that not everyone preferred to shop in air-conditioned supermarkets and eat in air-conditioned food courts. I for one love to eat at hawker centers…although it’s almost the same food but serve at 2 different places…the vibe is very different…and it’s much cheaper that’s for sure. I’m sure there are plenty living in the new estates who agree with me. Don’t think we will be getting any within the next 2 or 3 years in the new estates…or not at all…well at least a decent coffee shop would do fine...could you believe that there isn’t any in the vicinity where I live…maybe we should flag the bus early and go to other older estates to eat at the hawker centers instead.

Quadrennial Celebration

Getting a university degree is essential these days…the knowledge acquired is essential…the research is essential…the result is essential…but only for that point of time. For me the most essential of all…is the process…the path that leads to the destination. It is through this path that I did a lot of thinking…a lot of analyzing…a lot of learning…justifying the right from wrong…pushing myself to my limits. It is also through this path that I discovered more of myself than I ever will…the hidden qualities…and the rotten side of me.

Been working for exactly 4 years after graduation…the knowledge acquired doesn’t apply…the research are outdated…the result doesn’t matter anymore. But the traits that I learn along the way have been and still put into good use. Like my Applied Mechanics Lecturer said...“The degree is only a passport”…well said sir…the passport brings me to places…but the rest is up to me to explore.

Born In The UK

Finally got hold of Badly Drawn Boy’s latest album…Born In The UK. Another great offering from Damon Gough aka Badly Drawn Boy. The previous…One Plus One Is One lacks…Born In The UK provides. The music here was beautifully crafted…from the first track Intro…to the last One Last Dance…track by track it flows perfectly. Every track is a pleasant to the ear…sometimes uplifting sometimes melancholy. Feels like watching a romantic movie with each song depicting a scene. This one is as good as About A Boy…if not better.

I especially like The Way Things Used To Be and Walk You Home Tonight. The lyrics so true…its like his singing our everyday life…with excellent blending melody. This album will be staying in my player for a long while…definitely a five star album.

Voice Of The Unsatisfied

The certain news websites published that a certain transport council survey on bus satisfaction finds a slight improvement…well what do you know…a slight improvement…so are we going to call for a celebration? Is there nothing else to write about? I would suggest they publish it when the survey finds that the bus satisfaction has improved greatly. Then again…will there be a time when we the commuters are very satisfied? I would hope they do a survey on me.

How can one be happy when the bus fare is not adjusted when the oil prices has already gone down. Service is good? I think not. What service does the bus company provide? The bus drivers are paid to drive the bus…safely and on time. I haven’t seen them provide any services other than driving the bus. This is my suggestion to the certain transport council…the bus company should hire more bus drivers and increase the frequency of the buses. With the increase in frequency…surely the long waiting time and overcrowding will be eliminated.

The certain bus council might ask…why are you complaining? I’m complaining because bus company have increased the bus fare…and nothing seems to have changed compare to before the bus fare was increased. If they are not doing anything…then they should reduce the bus fare since the oil prices has gone down…and increase again when the oil price goes up. That to me…will only be fare to the commuters.
